It’s not often you get to experience the atmosphere of a major university without getting lost in the crowd. Lubbock is often called the hub of West Texas, with social, cultural and economic similarities to a major city, with the same dining, shopping and urbane tastes that you can find almost anywhere!
Texas Tech University is home to about 32,000 students, with 1,600 current students enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The Department Plant and Soil Science is excited about each one of our 250 undergraduate and graduate students, on campus and at a distance. You definitely see that “small-town environment” as soon as you step foot on campus.

So what do we have to offer?

We have two on-campus, undergraduate degrees, in Horticultural and Turfgrass Sciences and Environmental Crop and Soil Sciences, that prepares students to face real world challenges within agriculture and environmental issues.
Ready for Graduate School?  No problem! We offer Master of Science degrees, on campus, in Crop Science, Plant Protection, Horticulture and Soil Science. We provide Graduate Certificates on campus or at a Distance in Crop Protection, Fibers and Biopolymers, Horticultural Landscape Management, and Soil Management.
Ready to take that final step?  Come see what our PhD Program has to offer, with emphasis areas in Crop Protection, Crop Science, Fibers and Biopolymers, Horticulture, and Soil Science.

Can’t move to Lubbock?
No Problem.

One of the unique aspects of our department is the opportunity to obtain your degree at a Distance. We offer a B.S. in Horticulture and two M.S. at a Distance in Horticulture and Crop Science. Whether you are in Texas, Nebraska, Mississippi, Brazil or China, the sky is the limit!

Still not convinced?

We have 27 faculty that are 100% dedicated to helping you achieve your goals as a student and as an individual. Whether you’re interested in Soil Microbiology, Turfgrass, Weed Science, Viticulture, Ornamental Horticulture or Environmental Protection, we have someone here for you! The state of the art facilities that our campus and department offer helps our students learn through hands-on instruction in and out of the classroom. All advising is done by our faculty, ensuring a one on one experience. Last year alone, our department awarded $76,000 in scholarships to its 250 students and our faculty we were second in the university in research grant funds. If this isn’t enough to convince you to start your college experience with the Department of Plant and Soil Science, we encourage you to come see firsthand what we have to offer.
