Turfgrass Science at
Texas Tech University

Texas Tech University is home to one of the newest, up-and-coming turfgrass programs in the nation. The undergraduate degree program leads to a degree in Horticultural and Turfgrass Sciences with a specialization in Turfgrass Management. This concentration is designed for students pursuing careers in the turfgrass industry, including golf course and athletic field management, environmental consulting, trade magazine journalism, and turfgrass research to name a few. Faculty at Texas Tech are very accessible and value one-on-one interaction with students, ultimately providing them with the direction they need to proceed confidently. Moreover, the knowledge and experience that our educators possess is highly regarded throughout academia. Our newly renovated 13-acre turfgrass farm is extensively used for research, teaching, and out-reach, while the world-class Rawl’s Golf Course has become an invaluable location for hands-on education. The University’s excellent reputation within the turfgrass community has provided countless student internship and scholarship opportunities. Overall, the Texas Tech turfgrass program is committed to the preparation of our students for successful careers in the “green industry”.
