Chair's Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Plant and Soil Science at Texas Tech University! We are a comprehensive academic department conducting research and offering coursework and academic programs in all areas of the plant and soil sciences. From our location in the heart of the southern High Plains of Texas, our faculty teach classes in biotechnology, crop science, soil science, horticulture, turf science, pest management, and cotton fiber science, to equip students to address regional and global plant production and environmental topics in their careers. Our faculty members also conduct cutting-edge research on these and many other subjects. This award-winning faculty offers many opportunities for our graduate and undergraduate students to be involved with research at the cutting edge of their professions.

We offer two B.S. degrees:  Environmental Crop and Soil Sciences, and Horticultural and Turfgrass Sciences. We also offer M.S. degrees in Crop Science, Entomology, Horticulture and Soil Science, and the Ph.D. in Agronomy. In addition, our department offers graduate degree programs in Crop Science and Horticulture offered at a distance. We invite you to join the more than 170 students who call our department their home for higher education. As a department, we pledge to you individual and personal attention from our faculty. More than half of our students receive scholarship support from our department. Internships and study abroad opportunities are available for broadening your horizons.
