Personal Information:
Vivien Allen Received the B.S. degree in General Agriculture from the University of Tennessee, Martin in 1962. She earned the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Louisiana State University with majors in Agronomy and Animal Science. Dr. Allen accepted the position of Thornton Distinguished Chair in the Department of Plant and Soil Science at Texas Tech University in 1995 and is adjunct professor of Animal Science at Texas Tech.
Dr. Allen has responsibilities in teaching and research. This includes undergraduate and graduate level courses in forage crop ecology, forage/livestock systems, and soil/plant/animal/environmental interrelationships in grazing lands. Research areas include forage management and forage/livestock systems with an emphasis on maximizing the use of forages for animal production, nutrient management and recycling to enhance sustainability of the forage/livestock system, and integrating grazing animals into sustainable forage/livestock/cropping systems. Research Interests:
Integrating crop and livestock systems to enhance protection of natural resources, improve profitability, and create a more sustainable approach to agriculture.
